Groups

There are 4 groups of instrument ratings.

Group 1: Multi Engine - May also fly IFR in group 2, 3

Group 2: Multi Inline - May also fly IFR in group 3

Group 3: Single Engine

Group 4: Helicopter

Instrument ratings are good for 2 years to the end of the month. In the second year, in order to be current, an instrument rating pilot must complete 6 hours of instrument flying, conducting 6 instrument approaches in the last 6 months. To renew the instrument rating a flight test must be performed.
